“In my former book, Theophilus, I wrote about all that Jesus began to do and to teach until the day he was taken up to heaven, after giving instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles he had chosen.  After his suffering, he presented himself to them and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God.” (Acts 1:1-3)

     Luke continues with his writing, and this time he records the book of Acts.  After Jesus’ resurrection, one thing Luke makes clear is that the church was founded on the resurrected, living, and active Son of God, Jesus Christ.  It was now time for his followers to carry on his work, knowing that they would never be alone; God was with them. 

     Future generations would have to carry on this work in order for the church to continue, up to this day.  Now it is our turn.  People need the Lord, and it is vital for us to see that the mission Jesus started long ago will continue without interruption.

Prayer: Dear Lord, you have equipped us with what we need to carry on your mission.  Give us the strength and fortitude to stand up for you and serve you in the days to come.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
