“Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures. He told them, “This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.  You are witnesses of these things.” (Luke 24:45-48)

     Prior to his ascension into heaven, the disciples knew that Jesus would not leave them empty-handed.  They had a purpose because they were first-hand witnesses of the risen Savior.  They “are witnesses” of all that he would say and do.  It was their responsibility to tell others about Jesus and invite them to be disciples as Jesus had once done with them. 

     First and foremost, our identity should be a witness for Jesus.  This does not take away everything else that identifies us—our family, our career, our accomplishments, etc.  Our identity as a witness supplements our whole identity in a way which gives glory to God.  Our witness for Jesus through everything we do makes our lives complete.

Prayer: Dear Lord, help us to reflect your glory throughout our lives, because we are well aware that the world needs to have knowledge of you, our risen Savior.  In your name we pray, Amen.
