“One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.” (Luke 11:1)

The disciples recognized that not only would Jesus pray on a consistent, disciplined basis, but they could see that it was the source of his strength in ministry.  After seeing Jesus perform miracles and preach with authority, the disciples didn’t ask Jesus to teach them those things.  They asked him to teach them to pray.

How important is prayer?  I’m thinking that the more time spent in prayer, the better.  The reason I say that is because we are staying in close communication with our Lord, and as we maintain a record of the people and things we pray about, we see how God is working on those prayers, even if we don’t see quick results.  God works on the human heart; yours, mine, and the people we pray for.  We are told numerous times in the Bible to “fear not,” and we can claim that when we know how much God cares about the details of our lives.

Prayer: Dear Lord, I know that you love and care for all of your people.  Thank you for being the one we can rely on.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
