“After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go. He told them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” (Luke 10:1-2)
Jesus appoints seventy-two people to go out and spread the word of God. While Jesus is the source of power for his followers’ ministry, he is not the only one working. This responsibility of ministry, sharing the gospel with others, has been given to all who follow Jesus.
The ministry of the modern-day church should also pick up where Jesus left off. Jesus has entrusted his ministry to you and me. This is an awesome responsibility, and it is important for us to understand that we are the body of Christ, striving to represent all of his goodness and love, carrying a message of hope to the world in need of a Savior.
Prayer: Dear Lord, keep me focused on you. As I go about my day, remind me that people all around me need hope in their lives. Help me to provide that hope in the same way you have given it to me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
