“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal, but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Matthew 6:19-21)

We are certainly blessed to have all of our possessions, but where do we put our priorities?  This makes me think of smart phones.  I’ve got one, and it certainly comes in handy when it comes to certain aspects of my job.  But I have to catch myself at times.  Am I focusing on those around me, or am I engrossed with my phone?  I’m thinking that people are much more important than being continually entertained with this modern-day gadget.

The same goes with any other possessions.  Our priorities ought to be in our relationships, and in our relationship with God.  People know how much we care when we think outside of ourselves and can direct our attention to them.  Our Lord knows us when we take the time to bring everything to him in prayer.  Let’s think of the things that will last, because the love we have within is something that will last forever.

Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to keep my priorities straight.  There is much to do, so help me to focus on the things that matter the most.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
