“Seek good and not evil, that you may live, and so the Lord, the God of hosts, will be with you, just as you have said. Hate evil and love good, and establish justice in the gate; it may be that the Lord, the God of hosts, will be gracious to the remnant of Joseph.” (Amos 5:14-15)
In the word of God, there is a clearly defined difference between good and evil. It is up to us to recognize this and to not ignore it. When we seek good, our actions fall in line with God’s intentions for the world. When we abandon or ignore the concept of good vs. evil, we are at risk of creating turmoil for ourselves and others. As followers of Christ, we know better. We are asked to “Fight the good fight of the faith; take hold of the eternal life to which you were called and for which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.” (1 Timothy 6:12) God can use us to help make things right.
Prayer: Dear Lord, your commandments are rock-solid and have stood the test of time. Help us to never neglect your teachings and to apply them to our lives. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
