“Out of my distress I called on the Lord; the Lord answered me and set me in a broad place.  With the Lord on my side I do not fear.  What can mortals do to me?” (Psalm 118:5-6)

Just like the psalmist, in times of distress it is right for us to call on the Lord, regardless of what is troubling us.  This could include times of fear, sorrow, illness, confusion, and decision-making.  It could be unconfessed and unresolved sin.  When we put our trust in the Lord, he is there and he is on our side.  We need the strength and wisdom of Almighty God.  He is our source of refuge in all circumstances.  There is something about bringing these things to God in prayer that lifts our Spirits and gives us the much-needed encouragement.

While troubles seem to be at the forefront of our thoughts, let’s not forget the joy in our hearts because of the good things God has done for us.  We can give our thanks and praise to God for that, as well!  “Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” (1 Thessalonians 5:18)

Prayer: Dear Lord, you are my strength and refuge.  Thank you for being here for me and enabling me to reach out to you.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
