“Now in that same region there were shepherds living in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. Then an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for see, I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people: to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is the Messiah, the Lord.” (Luke 2:8-11)
“Good news of great joy for all people” is what it’s all about. An unsuspecting group of shepherds received this news, and they would be the first ones to hear of this. It just goes to show that the good news reaches everybody, including ordinary people. The shepherds were told where to go in order to find this child. They followed the directions and found him. They witnessed to others what they had found and returned home filled with joy.
Christmas is a few days away. Let’s remind ourselves of the joy that God puts in our hearts. We have a Savior who sees beyond our shortcomings. He wants us to be with him forever. When we surrender our lives to him, all is well with our souls.
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for coming into the world and living among us. We know that in our imperfect lives, you are still among us, redeeming us and making us whole. Thank you! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
