“And Mary said, “My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.” (Luke 1:46-47)
Upon hearing the angel’s message and receiving some confirmation from her cousin Elizabeth, Mary worshipped the Lord. The future was still uncertain, but one thing she knew for sure—she would give birth to the Savior of the world.
When Mary said, “My soul magnifies the Lord,” she exalted the Lord, taking her eyes off of herself and giving honor to his name. Her worship came from the depths of her soul and her Spirit rejoiced. She rejoiced in the one who would save her, and the one who would save us. True joy is not based on our achievements, but in God’s character and his saving work.
Let Mary’s song become your own. It is easy to let our problems sidetrack us, but take time to rejoice in your salvation, and give God his due praise.
Prayer: Dear Lord, I praise you for my salvation and the joy it brings to my soul. Help me to worship you in all seasons, and I pray that my life would magnify you and point others to your greatness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
