“Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!” (2 Corinthians 9:15)

As Christmas draws near, Paul calls us to pause and reflet on a gift so extraordinary that no words can fully capture its worth: Jesus Christ, God’s indescribable gift.

In the context of this verse we read of Paul’s teaching on generosity and giving, and this is so much of what we are accustomed to this time of year, but now we find that we have received the ultimate gift.  In Jesus, we receive not only salvation, but the expression of God’s love, mercy, and faithfulness.

This “indescribable gift” is not seasonal; it is eternal.  Jesus is the gift that keeps on giving—hope, peace, forgiveness, and life everlasting.  We can fully celebrate Christmas, having true knowledge of its meaning.

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for this gift and the salvation it brings.  I pray that your generosity towards us is reflected during this season, and we think of and pray for those in our own lives who can benefit from receiving this greatest gift.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
