“For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12)

The word of God has been referred to as the “handbook for life.” When I was in Boy Scouts, there was the Boy Scout Handbook.  If you read it, it would help you in scouting activities, earn merit badges, etc., and there were a lot of things which you could learn and remember throughout your life.  It was a truly valuable experience.

The Bible is not going to give you a lot of “how to” instructions for some of your basic skills, but it will point you in the right direction when it comes to attitude and conduct.  It will clear the mind of the world’s polluted thinking, setting us straight on how things ought to be, and it can help us find joy in this gift of life we have.  The more we read, study, meditate on it, and apply it to our lives, the better off we will be.  One of the names Jesus has is “Our Wonderful Counselor,” and the word of God is one means of getting this excellent advice!

Prayer: Dear Lord, I am thankful for your teachings which have been passed down through the generations.  It has helped to set me straight on so many issues and has given me this unspeakable joy that cannot be denied.  I pray that your word will continue to convict the hearts and minds of people everywhere.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
