“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” (John 15:13)

Jesus called his disciples his friends, and he was the one who would soon lay down his life for them (and us) on the cross.  Jesus is also our friend, because he accepts us as we are, and we can have a relationship with him.

A true friend is someone who will not let you down; someone who sticks with you through thick and thin.  It is good when we have friends like that.  We can confide in them and trust them with our life.  That is something we cannot take for granted.  We can cherish our relationships with those we trust.  More than anyone, we can trust Jesus to guide us and protect us, and we can confide in him, pouring out our hearts to him.  Our relationship with God is something which is very much worth holding on to.

Prayer: Dear Lord, I acknowledge you as a true friend who laid  down your life for me.  While I don’t feel worthy, I am so glad that you have done this for me and I am amazed at how you stick with me through everything that I experience.  Thank you, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
